Assembly Bill 922 mandates that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) ensure all public office locations where operator licenses are issued comply with the 2010 accessibility standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by January 1, 2030, without exceptions for cost or feasibility. The bill requires the secretary of transportation to consult with the Aging and Disability Resource Center in each county and individuals with lived experience to inform the design of necessary modifications. Additionally, the DOT must submit four interim reports to the governor, legislature, and secretary of workforce development detailing the locations needing modifications, prioritization of these locations, cost estimates, and progress on completed projects.

The bill also includes provisions to protect historic properties during the modification process. If any action taken to comply with the accessibility requirements may adversely affect a historic property, the secretary of transportation must notify the state's Historical Society at least 30 days prior to the action, allowing them to document the property's condition. This ensures that the historical significance of properties is considered while enhancing accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
