Assembly Bill 832 mandates the development and implementation of human trafficking and sextortion prevention instruction for students in grades 6 to 12 in Wisconsin. The state superintendent of public instruction, in collaboration with the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Justice, is tasked with creating a list of recommended training courses that are age-appropriate. Starting in the 2026-27 school year, school boards will be required to provide this instruction at least once in grades 6 to 8 and once in grades 9 to 12. The bill also defines sextortion and outlines the nature of the exploitation involved.
Additionally, the bill requires full-time school district employees who hold a license from the Department of Public Instruction to undergo training to identify victims of child trafficking and sextortion. The bill includes several new provisions, such as the creation of section 115.28 (67) regarding training courses, the renumbering of section 118.07 (5) to (5)(a), and the establishment of section 118.07 (5)(b) to include information on identifying at-risk children. Furthermore, section 121.02 (1)(L) 9 is created to ensure that the health curriculum incorporates the mandated instruction on human trafficking and sextortion prevention.
