Senate Bill 662 mandates that a sticker displaying the federal and state gas tax rates per gallon be placed on all motor vehicle fuel pumps in Wisconsin. The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is tasked with creating and distributing these stickers to state and municipal weights and measures inspectors and sealers. The stickers must be updated and redistributed whenever there is a change in the federal or state gas tax rates. The bill specifies that the sticker must be at least 3.5 inches on each side and should be displayed prominently on the pump for consumer visibility.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that inspectors and sealers are responsible for affixing the sticker during their inspections of the fuel pumps. Importantly, it clarifies that owners or operators of the fuel pumps will not be held liable for the placement or maintenance of the sticker. The provisions of this act are set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
