Assembly Bill 550 mandates that manufacturers of packaged food products intended for human consumption in Wisconsin must include warning labels on their products. These labels must disclose the presence of specific ingredients, including various color additives, preservatives, and synthetic substances that are banned in countries such as Australia, Canada, the European Union, or the United Kingdom. The warning must be prominently displayed in high contrast and in a visible location, stating: "WARNING: This product contains an artificial color, chemical, or food additive that is banned in Australia, Canada, the European Union, or the United Kingdom."

Violations of this labeling requirement may result in criminal penalties ranging from $100 to $5,000, or up to one year of imprisonment, or both. Alternatively, violators may face a civil penalty of up to $1,000 for each infraction. The bill aims to enhance consumer awareness regarding potentially harmful ingredients in food products and establishes a framework for enforcement through penalties.
