Assembly Bill 422 proposes an amendment to the statutes regarding the time limitation for prosecuting the crime of hiding or burying a corpse with the intent to conceal a crime. Currently, prosecutions for felonies must generally begin within six years of the crime's commission. This bill modifies that provision by allowing prosecution to commence either within six years of the crime or within six years of the discovery or identification of the corpse, whichever occurs later.

The new legal language created under section 939.74 (2) (ap) specifies that prosecutions for this particular crime may be initiated based on the later of these two timeframes. Additionally, the bill includes a provision for initial applicability, stating that it applies to acts for which the time limitation for prosecution has not expired as of the effective date of the bill.
