The Wisconsin Legislature has introduced Senate Joint Resolution 28, which reaffirms the state's commitment to strengthening its sister-state relationship with Taiwan. Established in 1986, this partnership has fostered significant bilateral trade, educational exchanges, and cultural ties. The resolution highlights the shared values of freedom, democracy, and human rights between Wisconsin and Taiwan, as well as the economic benefits derived from their relationship, including Wisconsin's exports to Taiwan and the import of Taiwanese goods.
Furthermore, the resolution expresses support for the Taiwan Relations Act and endorses Taiwan's efforts to negotiate a Bilateral Trade Agreement with the United States. It emphasizes the importance of enhancing economic engagement between Wisconsin businesses and Taiwan, as well as supporting Taiwan's participation in international organizations. The resolution aims to strengthen the economic and trade partnership between Wisconsin and Taiwan while promoting Taiwan's contributions to global challenges. Copies of the resolution will be sent to Wisconsin's congressional delegation and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago.
