2023 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 65

1 Relating to: recognizing August as Immunization Awareness Month in Wisconsin.
2 Whereas, August is National Immunization Awareness Month; and
3 Whereas, nearly a million students will return to Wisconsin schools at the end
4 of August and beginning of September; and
5 Whereas, state law requires K-12 students to receive certain immunizations
6 to maintain herd immunity and protect the health of those who are unable to receive
7 those immunizations; and
8 Whereas, immunizations are considered to be one of the greatest modern
9 medical discoveries of the past century; and
10 Whereas, vaccines are estimated to have prevented 26.8 million
11 hospitalizations and 936,000 deaths among children born in the United States
12 between 1994 and 2018; and
13 Whereas, the World Health Organization estimates that each year,
14 immunization prevents 3.5 to 5 million deaths globally due to over 20
15 life-threatening diseases; and

1 Whereas, vaccinations are necessary and safe for the overwhelming majority
2 of people and have been shown to prevent disease across the globe; now, therefore,
3 be it
4 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
5 Wisconsin Legislature recognize August 2023 as Immunization Awareness Month in
6 Wisconsin.
