1 AN ACT to create 20.935 of the statutes; relating to: native prairie and forage
2 plants.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires state agencies and other state governmental entities to give
preference, where appropriate, to using native prairie and forage plants to benefit
native bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The bill requires the Department of
Natural Resources to provide information upon request to support this initiative.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
3 SECTION 1. 20.935 of the statutes is created to read:
4 20.935 Native prairie and forage plants. (1) DEFINITION. In this section,
5 “state agency" means an association, authority, board, department, commission,
6 independent agency, institution, office, society, or other body in state government
7 created or authorized to be created by the constitution or any law.
8 (2) INITIATIVE. Each state agency, where appropriate, shall give preference to
9 using native prairie and forage plants to benefit native bees, butterflies, and other

1 pollinators. The department of natural resources shall provide information to a state
2 agency when requested to support this initiative.
