1 Relating to: honoring the life and public service of Representative Daniel
2 LeMahieu.
3 Whereas, Representative Daniel Roy LeMahieu, a dedicated public servant,
4 proud veteran, community and business leader, and loving husband, father, and
5 grandfather passed away on February 18, 2022; and
6 Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was born to Lewis and Lenore on November 5,
7 1946, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and
8 Whereas, he graduated from Oostburg High School in 1964 and went on to
9 attend the UW-Sheboygan and UW-Milwaukee; and
10 Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 before
11 working in advertising at News Graphic for over ten years; and
12 Whereas, he went on to purchase the Lakeshore Weekly and was the owner and
13 publisher of the weekly for 23 years; and
14 Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu served as a Sheboygan County Board Supervisor
15 from 1988 until 2002, twice being elected chairman; and

1 Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was first elected to the Wisconsin Assembly in 2002
2 and proudly represented the people of the 59th Assembly District for 12 years; and
3 Whereas, during his time in the assembly, he served as vice-chair of the
4 powerful Joint Committee on Finance and also served as co-chair of the Joint
5 Committee for Review of Administrative Rules and chair of the Assembly Committee
6 on Urban and Local Affairs; and
7 Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was a lifelong member of Bethel Orthodox
8 Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder, Sunday School superintendent, sang
9 in choir, and was active in Men's Life; and
10 Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was also active in the Oostburg Business
11 Association and the Oostburg Kiwanis Club and, during retirement, served on the
12 board of Anchor of Hope and the regional board of Thrivent; and
13 Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu will be remembered for his unwavering dedication
14 to his community and the state of Wisconsin; and
15 Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu's legacy in the Wisconsin Legislature lives on
16 through his son, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu; now, therefore, be it
17 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
18 Wisconsin State Legislature join in honoring the life and public service of
19 Representative Daniel LeMahieu and extend their condolences to his family and
20 friends; and, be it further
21 Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to
22 Rosemary, Daniel LeMahieu's wife of 54 years.
