1 Relating to: celebrating the 175th year of Wisconsin's statehood.
2 Whereas, in 1846, the U.S. government gave permission to the Territory of
3 Wisconsin to take the necessary steps to become a state; and
4 Whereas, in 1846, a convention drafted a constitution that failed to be ratified
5 by the territory's voters; and
6 Whereas, a second constitutional convention met in the winter of 1847-48,
7 which drafted a second constitution; and
8 Whereas, the territory's voters ratified the constitution on March 13, 1848; and
9 Whereas, on May 29, 1848, President Polk signed legislation that admitted
10 Wisconsin to the union, granting Wisconsin statehood; and
11 Whereas, Wisconsin, paying homage to its history in agriculture and mining,
12 is called “America's Dairyland” and the “Badger State”; and
13 Whereas, Wisconsin boasts an abundance of geographic beauty and natural
14 resources, including over 15,000 lakes, 471,000 acres of state forests, and 60,000
15 acres of state parks; and

1 Whereas, Wisconsin today is home to over 5.8 million residents; and
2 Whereas, Wisconsin has a proud history of 175 years and, as always, looks
3 “Forward” to the future; now, therefore, be it
4 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
5 legislature recognize that 2023 marks the 175th year of Wisconsin's statehood,
6 reflect on Wisconsin's rich history, and look forward to the future of the state.
