1 Relating to: celebrating May 5, 2023, as Skilled Trades Day in Wisconsin.
2 Whereas, the construction industry is one of our nation's largest industries, and
3 those in the skilled trades work in critical, rewarding, high-paying, high-demand
4 jobs that cannot be outsourced overseas; and
5 Whereas, according to the Associated Builders and Contractors, over one in four
6 construction workers are over 55 years old, and the construction industry will need
7 to attract an estimated 546,000 additional workers on top of the normal pace of hiring
8 in 2023; and
9 Whereas, Wisconsin's world-renowned registered apprentice program allows
10 inexperienced individuals of any age to participate in structured, on-the-job
11 training with classroom instruction where they earn while they learn; and
12 Whereas, according to the Wisconsin Technical College System, the annual
13 median salary for all graduated construction apprentices is $87,000; and

1 Whereas, National Skilled Trades Day was created to help raise awareness of
2 the important work of those men and women who build the places where we all live,
3 work, play, worship, learn, and heal; now, therefore, be it
4 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
5 Legislature celebrates May 5, 2023, as Skilled Trades Day in Wisconsin.
