1 Relating to: commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl
2 Harbor.
3 Whereas, on December 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan launched a surprise attack
4 on the United States at the American naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii; and
5 Whereas, a total of 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 Americans were
6 wounded during the attack; and
7 Whereas, a total of 19 warships were damaged or destroyed from the attack;
8 and
9 Whereas, a total of 328 Navy and Army Air Corps aircraft were damaged or
10 destroyed from the attack; and
11 Whereas, the attack on Pearl Harbor prompted President Franklin D.
12 Roosevelt to deliver his `Day of Infamy Speech' to a joint session of the 77th United
13 States Congress; and
14 Whereas, Congress passed a formal declaration of war against Japan less than
15 an hour later; and

1 Whereas, Germany and Italy then declared war on the United States, bringing
2 America fully into World War II; and
3 Whereas, it is imperative for all American citizens to never forget the sacrifices
4 made by our armed forces during World War II; now, therefore, be it
5 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
6 Wisconsin Legislature commemorate December 7, 2021, as the 80th anniversary of
7 the attack on Pearl Harbor and pay tribute to the millions of Americans who served
8 honorably during the Second World War.
