This bill amends existing laws regarding the supervision of medical assistants and lactation consultants by licensed midwives in Washington State. It allows licensed midwives to delegate specific tasks and procedures to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and now also medical assistants, provided these tasks do not exceed the education and scope of practice of the individuals involved. Additionally, the bill clarifies that licensed midwives can coordinate with international board-certified lactation consultants, enhancing collaborative care in maternal and infant health.

The bill also updates definitions related to medical assistants and their supervision, including provisions for telemedicine. It specifies that a health care practitioner does not need to be physically present during certain procedures, such as blood withdrawal or vaccine administration, as long as they are immediately available. The bill includes a new section that establishes an expiration date for certain provisions on June 30, 2027, and indicates that other sections will take effect on the same date.
