The resolution honors the life and legacy of Ayenur Ezgi Eygi, a dedicated social and environmental activist born in Turkey and raised in Seattle, Washington. Eygi was deeply committed to social justice, organizing significant events such as a mass student walkout against xenophobia in 2016 and supporting marginalized communities. Her activism extended globally, where she engaged in various projects aimed at promoting climate justice and human rights, including eco-building in Myanmar and coral reef restoration in Australia. Eygi's dedication to helping others was evident in her work with refugees and immigrants in Seattle, as well as her role as a behavioral technician for children on the autism spectrum.

Tragically, Eygi's life was cut short on September 6, 2024, when she was killed by a sniper while witnessing events in the Middle East. In recognition of her contributions, the University of Washington Middle East Center has established a public lecture series in her name to promote education and dialogue on international human rights and environmental sustainability. The resolution calls for the House of Representatives to posthumously commend Eygi's extraordinary life and activism, which continues to inspire others in Washington to advocate for social and environmental justice. Copies of the resolution will be sent to her family to honor her memory.
