This bill amends existing laws regarding the installation of electric vehicle supply equipment in Washington State. A new section is added to chapter 19.28 RCW, which mandates that installation on public works must be carried out by individuals certified by the electric vehicle infrastructure training program or a similar nationally recognized program. This requirement is aimed at ensuring safety and consistency in installation standards. However, it does not apply to apprentices under certain conditions or to installations contracted before the bill's effective date. The Department of Labor and Industries is also granted the authority to adopt necessary rules for implementation.

Additionally, the bill amends RCW 19.28.211 to clarify the certification requirements for electricians. It specifies that while certificates of competency allow holders to work in the electrical construction trade without additional proof, those performing installation and maintenance work on electric vehicle supply equipment must also meet the new certification requirements established in the bill. The act is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
