This bill aims to enhance the efficiency of state toxicology laboratories in Washington by ensuring timely processing of drug and alcohol impairment cases. A new section is added to chapter 43.43 RCW, mandating the state patrol to hire an adequate number of staff, contingent upon available funding, to guarantee that samples are processed within one week of their arrival at the laboratory.
Additionally, the chief of the state patrol is required to submit a funding request to the house appropriations committee and the senate ways and means committee, following the budget submittal guidelines set by the office of financial management. This initiative seeks to improve the responsiveness of toxicology services, thereby supporting law enforcement and public safety efforts related to substance impairment.
