This bill introduces new requirements for fee disclosure related to lodging accommodations in Washington State. It adds two new sections to existing laws, specifically chapter 19.48 RCW for hotels and chapter 64.37 RCW for short-term rentals. Under these new provisions, all fees or charges associated with staying at a hotel or short-term rental must be included in the advertised room rate, with the exception of government-imposed taxes and fees. Additionally, before a consumer makes a reservation, the total price must reflect all applicable taxes and fees. The bill also establishes civil penalties of up to $10,000 for violations of these disclosure requirements, enforceable by city attorneys, county prosecuting attorneys, or the attorney general.

The act is deemed necessary for the immediate preservation of public peace, health, or safety, and it is set to take effect on July 1, 2025. This legislation aims to enhance transparency for consumers regarding the true cost of lodging, ensuring that all relevant fees are clearly communicated prior to booking.
