HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2024-4691, by Representative Maycumber
1 WHEREAS, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers brought her
2 dedication and an unwavering sense of duty to the United States House
3 of Representatives and the Washington State Legislature; and
4 WHEREAS, Growing up on an orchard and fruit stand in Kettle
5 Falls, McMorris Rodgers developed a lifelong interest in boosting
6 rural economies and creating better futures for our children; and
7 WHEREAS, McMorris Rodgers was appointed to the House of
8 Representatives in 1994 to serve an unexpired term and went on to
9 serve five terms; and
10 WHEREAS, Since first being elected to the United States House of
11 Representatives, in 2004, McMorris Rodgers has earned the trust of
12 her constituents and praise on Capitol Hill for her hard work,
13 conservative principles, bipartisan outreach, and leadership to get
14 results for Eastern Washington; and
15 WHEREAS, In 2006, Cathy married Brian Rodgers, a Spokane native
16 and retired 26-year Navy Commander; and
17 WHEREAS, In 2007, she gave birth to Cole Rodgers, who was born
18 with an extra 21st chromosome and inspired McMorris Rodgers to become
19 a leader in the disabilities community; and
20 WHEREAS, McMorris Rodgers has since welcomed two daughters into
21 the world: Grace, in December 2010; and Brynn, in November 2013; and
22 WHEREAS, McMorris Rodgers faithfully represented Washington in
23 the United States Congress, serving 10 terms in the United States

1 House of Representatives, including as the Chair of the House Energy
2 and Commerce Committee, which has broad jurisdiction over the issues
3 that matter most to the people of Eastern Washington; and
4 WHEREAS, McMorris Rodgers served as Chair of the House Republican
5 Conference from 2012 to 2018; and
6 WHEREAS, McMorris Rodgers was the 200th woman ever elected to
7 serve in the United States House of Representatives and the first
8 woman to give birth three times while in office; and
9 WHEREAS, McMorris Rodgers' top priority has always been to get
10 results for the people of Eastern Washington that she has the honor
11 of representing;
12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House
13 of Representatives recognize and honor Cathy McMorris Rodgers for her
14 service to our state and to our nation.
