HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2024-4688, by Representative Schmidt
1 WHEREAS, Libby Roberts, a junior at University High School in
2 Spokane Valley, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination by
3 winning her third girls 105-pound wrestling state championship in the
4 3A/4A class at the Tacoma Dome on Saturday, February 17th; and
5 WHEREAS, Libby achieved a remarkable victory by pinning her
6 opponent from Sumner High School in the first round at the 50 second
7 mark, securing a third championship match win; and
8 WHEREAS, Libby's championship match showcased strategic prowess
9 and confidence, with Libby successfully leveraging superior
10 positioning to secure the win; and
11 WHEREAS, Since the inclusion of girls' wrestling at the Mat
12 Classic in 2004, Libby has joined an elite group of athletes and
13 contributing to the growth and visibility of girls' wrestling in
14 Washington State; and
15 WHEREAS, Libby has three state titles, a USA Wrestling All-
16 American, and is undefeated against Washington state girls; and
17 WHEREAS, Libby Roberts earned an impressive 3.88 grade point
18 average assisting her team in winning the 2024 Washington
19 Interscholastic Activities Association Academic State Championship;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, Libby attributes a lot of her success to her coach and
22 father, Kevin Roberts, who has taught her focus, work ethic, and
23 strength in both athletics and academics; and

1 WHEREAS, Libby's ambition extends beyond her current
2 achievements, with sights set on capturing a fourth state title in
3 her senior year, a feat accomplished by only four girls before her,
4 demonstrating her commitment to excellence and her contribution to
5 the legacy of girls wrestling in Washington;
6 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives
7 recognize and honor Libby Roberts for her outstanding accomplishments
8 in girls wrestling, her significant contribution to the sport's
9 growth and inclusivity, and her role as an exemplary model of
10 dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship for young athletes in
11 Washington State and beyond; and
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be
13 immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of
14 Representatives to Libby Roberts and Coach Kevin Roberts of
15 University High School.
