Hasegawa, Liias, Shewmake, Short, L. Wilson, Keiser, Hunt, Cleveland, and Stanford
1 WHEREAS, This year former Senator Jeannie Darneille announced her
2 retirement from state service; and
3 WHEREAS, Former Senator Darneille has dedicated decades of her
4 life to serving the people of Washington State; and
5 WHEREAS, Former Senator Darneille spent the first years of her
6 career serving as executive director for a number of nonprofit
7 service organizations, including the Pierce County AIDS Foundation
8 and the Emergency Food Network; and
9 WHEREAS, She was elected to the Washington State House of
10 Representatives representing the 27th Legislative District in the
11 year 2000, where she served five terms with distinction; and
12 WHEREAS, She was elected to the Senate in 2012 where she served
13 as chair of the Human Services, Rehabilitation, and Reentry
14 Committee; and
15 Whereas, Throughout her tenure as a Legislator, Jeannie Darneille
16 was a tireless advocate for human services with a consistent focus on
17 serving the most vulnerable and historically excluded members of our
18 communities; and
19 WHEREAS, Jeannie Darneille has also served with distinction as
20 the Assistant Secretary of the Women's Division at the Department of
21 Corrections, where she contributed to the integration of gender
22 responsive care in pursuit of safety and rehabilitation; and

1 WHEREAS, Jeannie Darneille has demonstrated unwavering
2 commitment and leadership in her role as a public servant,
3 tirelessly working towards the betterment of our community and
4 state;
5 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State
6 Senate express its deepest gratitude to former Senator Jeannie
7 Darneille for her exemplary service to the people of the 27th
8 Legislative District and the entire state; and
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That former Senator Darneille is
10 wished a well-deserved and joyful retirement, filled with the
11 recognition of the positive impact she has made throughout her
12 illustrious career; and
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Jeannie Darneille as a token of the immense respect
15 and appreciation this legislative body holds for her.
