SENATE RESOLUTION
8667

1 WHEREAS, The Washington state commercial fishing fleet will set
2 off for the Pacific in May of 2024; and
3 WHEREAS, The blessing of the fleet will occur in Blaine Harbor on
4 May 5, 2024; and
5 WHEREAS, The commercial and tribal fishing industries have, for
6 generations, been vital for the prosperity of our state, and support
7 the economic well-being of many Washington families; and
8 WHEREAS, The courage of fishers in the face of danger encountered
9 on the seas deserves our admiration, appreciation, and respect; and
10 WHEREAS, The treacherous seas too often take the lives of the
11 valiant souls who take on great risks for our benefit, and the grief
12 of this loss is felt not only in their families and communities, but
13 across our entire state;
14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington state Senate
15 extend its condolences to the families and friends of all our fishers
16 who have lost their lives at sea, wish the entire commercial fishing
17 fleet a safe and prosperous season, and express its hope that all our
18 fishers will return home safely to their families, friends, and
19 communities.
