1 WHEREAS, On this 10th day of February in 2024, the people of the
2 great state of Washington unite to celebrate Lunar New Year, joining
3 to distinguish Asian American joy, cultures, and beautiful diversity;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year begins on the first new moon of the
6 lunisolar calendar; and
7 WHEREAS, This year is designated as the Year of the Dragon, the
8 animal characterized by its strength, determination, and resilient
9 nature, bringing symbols of boldness, courage, and growth to the
10 year; and
11 WHEREAS, Washington acknowledges both the rich heritage and
12 collective trauma of our Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific
13 Islander ancestors; and
14 WHEREAS, We deeply appreciate the many contributions of the Asian
15 American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander community that have made
16 Washington a vibrant place for us all to call home, through building
17 and supporting their communities despite perpetual discriminations
18 and violence they may have faced in the past and present; and
19 WHEREAS, We highlight the solidarity and strength of the Asian
20 American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander community rooted in the
21 culture that respects its ancestry and supports its descendants; and

 1 WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year is a time to reflect, to celebrate
2 family and community, to learn and understand the past as we look
3 towards renewal and growth; and
4 WHEREAS, We step into the Year of the Dragon not just as
5 individuals, but as family united in compassion and community
6 stewardship;
7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives
8 stand with the Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander
9 community in times of crisis and in times of celebration, we come
10 together now to reflect on the year past and envision new beginnings
11 in acknowledgement of the Lunar New Year.
