1 AN ACT Relating to communication between employees of state
2 institutions of higher education and student athletes regarding name,
3 image, and likeness use; and adding a new section to chapter 42.52
4 RCW.
5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
6 NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 42.52
7 RCW to read as follows:
8 This chapter does not prohibit the use of public resources,
9 including but not limited to the use of personnel, money, and
10 property, by an employee of a state institution of higher education
11 to benefit any student athlete in the advising, facilitation,
12 acknowledgment, or education related to a matter involving the name
13 image and likeness of such a student athlete or group of student
14 athletes, or in relation to student athlete name image and likeness
15 matters generally, so long as such resources are under the control or
16 direction of such an employee. Any use of public resources must
17 adhere to the rules established by the national, nonprofit member
18 organization responsible for oversight of college sports at state
19 institutions of higher education.
