     READ FIRST TIME 01/29/24.
1        AN ACT Relating to responding to electric vehicle fires; and
2    creating a new section.
3    BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
 4       NEW SECTION.    Sec. 1.    (1) The Washington state patrol, in
 5   consultation with the department of ecology, local fire protection
 6   districts, a representative of the towing and recovery industry, and
 7   other entities, must study the following elements of electric vehicle
 8   fires:
 9       (a) Impacts to the environment and proximate residential areas,
10   and health impacts to responding firefighters;
11       (b) Best practices for fire response; and
12       (c) Best practices regarding clean-up and disposal efforts.
13       (2) By January 1, 2025, the Washington state patrol must report
14   to the appropriate committees of the legislature study findings and
15   any resulting policy or legislative recommendations.
