This bill establishes mandatory fair housing training for officers or board members of common interest communities in Washington State. It introduces new sections to chapters 64.32, 64.34, 64.38, and 64.90 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW), requiring that these individuals complete a training course on federal and state fair housing laws within 60 days of taking office and subsequently every three years while in their position. The training can be conducted remotely, utilizing technology such as internet-based platforms.
Upon completion of the training, officers or board members must provide their association with a certificate or similar document that includes details about the training provider, a brief description of the training, and the completion date. If a certificate is not available, they may submit an affidavit containing the same information. Additionally, all certificates and affidavits must be retained in the association's records for a minimum of five years.
