The House concurrent resolution congratulates Arthur and Kathy Whitman for being awarded the 2026 Shaftsbury Ordinary Hero Award in recognition of their significant contributions to the Shaftsbury community. The Whitmans, lifelong residents of the area, have dedicated over 60 years to various professional and personal initiatives that have positively impacted their community. They owned Whitmans Feed Store from 1988 to 2015, where they introduced advanced agricultural practices and supported local farmers and animal rescue organizations. Additionally, they have sponsored community events and served in leadership roles within the NorShaft Lions, advocating for disabled individuals, environmental health, and senior citizens.
Arthur Whitman has also held various elected and appointed positions, including serving on the Shaftsbury Selectboard and advocating for community development projects. Together, the Whitmans have been active in promoting agricultural policy through their roles in the Bennington County Farm Bureau and have organized numerous community events, including the town's first tractor parade. The resolution acknowledges their extraordinary civic contributions and directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to the Whitmans.
