The resolution congratulates the Brattleboro Union High School (BUHS) mock trial team for winning first place in the 2026 Vermont Mock Trial Competition. This competition, which has been a staple for high school students over the past decade, provides participants with a comprehensive educational experience in courtroom procedures and legal processes. In 2026, the students faced a challenging criminal case involving charges of murder and conspiracy, requiring them to prepare various legal arguments and witness testimonies. The competition took place at Vermont Law and Graduate School, where a panel of judges, including members of the judiciary and practicing lawyers, evaluated the performances.

The BUHS team, consisting of student attorneys Abraham Balint-Wohl, Danny Mahoney-Schmitt, Sal North, and Isabel Young, along with witnesses Leland Stromberg, Eli Welch, and Gilbert Komuves, demonstrated exceptional preparation and skill, leading to their victory. Faculty coaches Tessa Anders and Ashley Nadeau, along with practicing attorney advisor Alycia Sanders, played crucial roles in guiding the students. The resolution not only recognizes the achievements of the BUHS team but also highlights the importance of such competitions in fostering critical thinking and public speaking skills among high school students. The General Assembly has resolved to officially congratulate the team and direct the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to BUHS.
