The House Concurrent Resolution congratulates Northshire Bookstore on its 50th anniversary of providing exceptional literary services and fostering a welcoming environment in Manchester Center, Vermont. Founded in 1976 by Ed and Barbara Morrow, the bookstore has evolved significantly over the years, including a relocation to the historic Colburn House in 1985 and a major expansion in 2003 under the leadership of their son, Chris Morrow. Northshire has garnered national recognition, including the prestigious Bookseller of the Year award from Publishers Weekly in 2006, and has expanded to a second location in Saratoga Springs, New York.
The resolution highlights the bookstore's commitment to community engagement, hosting over 200 events annually, such as author talks and the Northshire Book Festival, while also supporting local initiatives through donations. Following the Morrow family's ownership, Northshire was purchased by Clark and Lu French in 2021, and after Lu's passing, it was acquired by a local family dedicated to continuing its legacy. The General Assembly expresses its appreciation for Northshire's contributions to the literary community and directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to the bookstore.
