The House concurrent resolution No. R-336 celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Vergennes Fire Department (VFD), which has its roots in private firefighting companies dating back to 1847. The formal establishment of the VFD occurred on January 3, 1876, when the city council enacted an ordinance to create a citywide fire department, marking a significant shift in local firefighting practices and contributing to the modernization of the city. Over the years, the VFD has evolved, updating its equipment and support systems while responding to major fires throughout its history.

In addition to its operational achievements, the resolution highlights the reestablishment of the Stevens Hose Company in 2002 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the fire service. This organization has played a crucial role in financing additional equipment and is currently fundraising to restore a historic fire engine. The resolution concludes by expressing the General Assembly's congratulations to the VFD and directing the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to Chief David DiBiase.
