The resolution honors Dr. Lewis R. First, a highly respected pediatrician and academic leader at the University of Vermont Medical Center and the Larner College of Medicine. Dr. First has an impressive educational background, including degrees from Harvard University and extensive experience in pediatric medicine, having chaired the pediatrics department at UVM since 1994, making him the longest-serving pediatrics chair in the nation. His leadership has significantly advanced pediatric care at both institutions, earning them national and international recognition. Additionally, Dr. First has contributed to the field as a scholar, editor of the journal Pediatrics, and through his outreach efforts, including a weekly video and radio series.

As Dr. First concludes his distinguished career, the resolution acknowledges his numerous accolades, including the UVM Alumni Association's George V. Kidder Outstanding Faculty Award and the Vermont Medical Society's Distinguished Service Award. The General Assembly expresses its gratitude and admiration for his contributions to pediatric medicine and directs the Secretary of State to send copies of the resolution to Dr. First, the Larner College of Medicine, and Golisano Children's Hospital.
