The House Concurrent Resolution congratulates the Hazen Union Lady Cats for their remarkable victory in the 2026 Division III girls basketball championship. The championship game, held at the Barre Auditorium, featured a thrilling matchup against the Windsor Yellow Jackets, marking the third consecutive year these teams faced off in the finals. The Lady Cats, who had previously won in 2024, showcased their improved performance after switching to the more competitive Capital Division. The game was intensely competitive, with the lead changing hands 13 times and culminating in a dramatic overtime finish, where Hazen secured a 55-53 victory with two crucial foul shots in the final seconds.
The resolution recognizes the outstanding contributions of the Lady Cats players, including Isabelle Gouin, Ari Nichols, and Taylor Thompson, among others, as well as the leadership of Head Coach Randy Lumsden and assistant coaches Alison Blaney and Sue Rivard. It also acknowledges the support of team managers who played a role in the team's success during the 2025-2026 season. The General Assembly expresses its congratulations and directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to Hazen Union High School to commemorate this achievement.
