The House Concurrent Resolution honors Laureen Cox, the Chair of the Ripton Selectboard, for her outstanding public service to the community. Originally from Seattle, Cox moved to Vermont to attend Middlebury College and later earned a master's degree from the University of Vermont. She dedicated 34 years as a guidance counselor at the Neshobe School in Brandon while simultaneously engaging in civic activities in Ripton. Her journey in public service began with volunteering at the local library, which led her to run for a position on the Ripton Selectboard in 1986. Over the past four decades, she has served continuously on the board, demonstrating effective leadership and commitment to her community.
Cox's contributions have been particularly notable during challenging times, such as her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she organized community assistance, and her pivotal role in recovery efforts following significant damage from record rainfall in 2023. As a member of the Friends of the Ripton Students group, she has also worked to preserve the local elementary school. The resolution acknowledges her remarkable 40-year tenure on the Selectboard, culminating in her respected role as chair, and directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to her and the Ripton town clerk.
