The House and Senate of Vermont have jointly passed a resolution honoring U.S. Army Major General Gregory Knight for his exemplary service to both the state and the nation. Major General Knight's distinguished career spans 43 years, beginning with his enlistment in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1983, followed by roles in law enforcement as a Burlington police officer and Chief Liquor Investigator. He also served in the Vermont Air National Guard before transitioning to the Vermont Army National Guard, where he was commissioned as an officer and later took on full-time Active Guard Reserve duties. His military service includes a deployment to Iraq and numerous accolades, including a Bronze Star Medal.
In 2019, Knight was elected as Vermont's Adjutant and Inspector General, the highest military position in the state, where he has served with distinction for seven years. His tenure included significant achievements, such as welcoming Austria into the State Partnership Program. The resolution expresses the General Assembly's gratitude for his dedication and contributions, and it directs the Secretary of State to send copies of the resolution to Major General Knight and the Vermont National Guard.
