The House of Representatives of Vermont has passed a concurrent resolution congratulating Shirley Young Cooper on her upcoming 100th birthday, which she will celebrate on November 4, 2025. A lifelong resident of Springfield, Shirley was born into a family that owned Youngs Furniture and Appliances and grew up in a household with six siblings, four of whom served in World War II. During the war, she contributed to the home front by working at a local factory and volunteering with the University of Vermont Extension service. Shirley's personal life is marked by her family, including her daughter Deanna, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her contributions during the war, Shirley has been an active member of her community, serving as a poll worker, volunteering for the Red Cross, and participating in her local church choir. She is known for her special sandwiches and has a passion for skiing and knitting mittens for local children. The resolution not only honors her remarkable life and community service but also acknowledges her as the second sibling in her family to reach the milestone of 100 years. The General Assembly has directed that copies of the resolution be sent to Shirley, her daughter, and her grandchildren to commemorate this significant occasion.
