The House concurrent resolution No. R-158 honors Cassandra Polhemus for her exceptional leadership of the Vermont Economic Development Authority (VEDA). Established in 1974, VEDA plays a crucial role in enhancing Vermont's economic vitality by providing financing programs to businesses that create jobs. Since becoming the chief executive officer in 2019, Polhemus has significantly increased VEDA's lending commitments from $2.5 billion to $2.8 billion. Her career at VEDA began in 2013 as a commercial lender, and she quickly advanced through various leadership roles, demonstrating her dedication and expertise in economic development.

Under Polhemus's guidance, VEDA successfully navigated the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing a paperless work environment and launching several critical financial programs to support businesses and farmers. Notable achievements include the rollout of a $2.3 million farm operating loan program, the closure of over 1,000 Paycheck Protection Program loans, and the establishment of a new Forestry Loan Program. As she prepares to conclude her leadership role on June 30, 2025, Polhemus has been recognized with the Small Business Administration's Financial Services Champion Award, reflecting her respected status among her peers. The resolution expresses the General Assembly's gratitude for her contributions and directs the Secretary of State to send her a copy of the resolution.
