The House concurrent resolution R-147 honors Shaun Murphy of Guilford for his nearly 25 years of dedicated service in educational governance. His journey in public education began in 2001 when he participated in the Citizen Advisory Committee for the renovation of Brattleboro Union High School, which successfully led to the passage of a significant bond issue for the school. Following this, Murphy became a member of the BUHS District 6 Board and continued his commitment to public education through the newly formed Windham Southeast School District and the Windham Southeast Supervisory Union Board until March 2025. He also served on the Guilford School Board, demonstrating a long-standing dedication to enhancing the educational experience for all students.

Throughout his tenure, Murphy has been a strong advocate for the rights of marginalized students, including those of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those with disabilities. He approached complex issues like school financing with confidence and maintained high ethical standards, demonstrating dignity and courtesy even in challenging situations. The resolution recognizes his exemplary service and contributions to the educational community, and it directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to him as a formal acknowledgment of his achievements.
