The House concurrent resolution No. R-136 congratulates Capital City Concerts and its founder, Karen Kevra, for 25 years of enriching the cultural landscape of central Vermont through classical music performances. Established in 2000, the concert series has showcased over 200 concerts featuring world-renowned musicians and has provided outreach programs and masterclasses, continuing the legacy of Kevra's mentor, Louis Moyse. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization adapted by launching the Muse Mentors podcast, which highlighted Vermont artists and fostered community engagement.
Capital City Concerts has not only contributed to the local economy by attracting musicians and audiences who support local businesses, but it has also played a vital role in mentoring young classical musicians. In response to the July 2023 floods in central Vermont, the organization organized a benefit concert that raised $10,000 for relief efforts. The resolution acknowledges the significant impact of Capital City Concerts on the community and its role in enhancing the cultural reputation of the area, and it directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to both Capital City Concerts and Karen Kevra.
