The House concurrent resolution honors the memory of Brenda Churchill, a former member of the Bakersfield Select Board, who passed away on January 13, 2025, at the age of 67. Brenda was a prominent advocate for transgender rights within the LGBTQIA+ community and had a significant impact on various civic and political initiatives over her two-decade career in the telecommunications industry. She served on the board of Northwest Fiberworx, was a key aide in Christine Hallquist's gubernatorial campaign, and played a vital role as the legislative liaison for the LGBTQIA Alliance of Vermont, contributing to important legislative changes regarding social equity and gender inclusivity.
In addition to her advocacy work, Brenda was actively involved in local government, serving as a zoning official, American Rescue Plan manager, justice of the peace, and select board member in Bakersfield. She also participated in the 2020 U.S. Census as a data collector and was appointed to the Vermont Commission on Women. The resolution expresses condolences to her family, including her partner, children, and grandchildren, and directs the Secretary of State to send copies of the resolution to her family, the Bakersfield Town Clerk, and the Vermont Commission on Women.
