The House concurrent resolution No. R-79 honors Linda C. Johnson for her significant contributions to the prevention of child abuse during her 38-year tenure as the Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Vermont (PCAVT). Under her leadership, PCAVT developed innovative strategies to combat child abuse and foster healthy relationships within families and communities. Johnson's initiatives have received national recognition, particularly for her work in preventing child sexual abuse, and she has effectively structured the organization into three key departments to address various aspects of child welfare.
Throughout her career, Johnson has demonstrated a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding child abuse and has led impactful advocacy campaigns that resulted in state funding for parent support groups, benefiting over 1,900 children. Her efforts have contributed to a significant reduction in child abuse victims and the prevalence of Shaken Baby Syndrome. As she concluded her tenure in December 2024, she was honored with the Lifetime Champion for Children Award, recognizing her dedication and achievements in this critical field. The resolution calls for the General Assembly to formally acknowledge her contributions and directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to Johnson and PCAVT.
