The House concurrent resolution honors Kenneth M. Cadow, the co-principal of Oxbow Union High School and author of the young adult novel "Gather." Cadow is recognized for his strategic thinking, diverse expertise, and his impactful role in public education, where he connects classroom learning to broader societal issues and fosters community unity. His recent publication, "Gather," tells the story of a rural Vermont teenager navigating adult responsibilities while caring for a stray dog, and has received significant acclaim, including being a finalist for the 2023 Vermont Book Award and winning the 2024 Kirkus Prize for young readers literature.

In addition to his literary achievements, Cadow's work has inspired many Vermonters to engage in important social issues such as housing and food security, substance abuse recovery, and youth empowerment. The Vermont Humanities Council has selected "Gather" as the 2024-2025 Vermont Reads book, promoting discussions across over 100 communities in the state. The resolution concludes by formally honoring Cadow for his contributions to education and literature, and directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to him and Oxbow Union High School.
