The House and Senate of Vermont have jointly passed a resolution congratulating the 2024 University of Vermont (UVM) Catamounts for winning their first NCAA Division I men's soccer championship, known as the College Cup. The Catamounts, affectionately referred to as the "Cardiac Cats" due to their thrilling late-game victories, achieved this remarkable feat after being unseeded in the tournament. They first triumphed over the third-seeded University of Denver in a dramatic semifinal match that went into overtime, before facing 13th-ranked Marshall University in the championship game. Despite falling behind, UVM equalized late in the match and secured the title with a decisive goal in overtime.
The resolution highlights the outstanding performance of the UVM players and coaching staff, including Head Coach Robert Dow and his team, who played a crucial role in this historic victory. The General Assembly expresses its pride in the Catamounts' achievement and directs the Secretary of State to send a copy of the resolution to the University of Vermont Athletics Department, commemorating this significant milestone in the school's athletic history.
