The House concurrent resolution honors the Vermonters who contributed to the creation of the Tony Award-winning musical "Hadestown," which is a modern adaptation of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The resolution highlights the journey of Anas Mitchell, who began developing the musical shortly after graduating from Middlebury College in 2004, and the collaborative efforts of other Vermont artists, including Michael Chorney and Ben T. Matchstick, who premiered the show in Barre in 2006. The musical achieved significant acclaim, debuting on Broadway in 2019 and winning eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.

In addition to recognizing the creators of "Hadestown," the resolution also celebrates the efforts of Vermont youth theater groups, such as the Peoples Academy and Very Merry Theatre, who have staged a teen version of the musical. The resolution acknowledges the guidance of Anas Mitchell and Ben T. Matchstick in these productions, as well as the leadership of Erin Galligan Baldwin at U-32 Middle and High School. The General Assembly expresses its appreciation for the artistic contributions of these individuals and groups, and directs the Secretary of State to send copies of the resolution to the key contributors and participating schools.
