Offered by: Representative Mrowicki of Putney Offered by: Senators Hashim and Harrison Whereas, Norm Bartlett will be remembered as a kind and intelligent human being with an insatiable curiosity and a penchant for singing, and Whereas, professionally, he devoted more than half a century to improving the lives of
Vermont’s educators and nonfaculty school staff, and Whereas, in 1969, after a brief teaching stint in St. Albans, Norm Bartlett joined the staff of the Vermont Education Association (now VT-NEA) for an amazingly lengthy career that extended until May 31, 2021, and Whereas, Norm Bartlett’s first organizational role was as assistant executive director;
then, in 1973, he became the VT-NEA’s UniServ Director for the Northeast Kingdom; and,
in 1987, he assumed a similar role for southern Vermont, and Whereas, while at VT-NEA, Norm Bartlett diligently and successfully negotiated over
500 local school contracts, and Whereas, although deeply dedicated to the cause of improving the pay and working conditions of all of Vermont’s school personnel, Norm Bartlett also enjoyed an immensely busy life away from the bargaining table, and Whereas, his broad range of hobbies included cooking, golfing, reading, sailing, and skiing, and Whereas, numerous skiing adventures, both near and far away, were a highlight of his family’s life, and Whereas, the Bellows Falls Country Club benefited from his leadership as president as
he established the Club’s Thursday morning Gentlemen’s League, and he also represented the Town of Putney on the governing board of Rescue Inc., the regional first-responder service, and Whereas, Norm Bartlett’s personally fulfilling life ended with his death on March 13,
2024 at 82 years of age, and his survivors include his wife, Kathleen, his children, and his grandchildren, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly expresses it sincere condolences to the family of Norman Paul Bartlett, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
the family of Norm Bartlett.
