No. R-320. Senate concurrent resolution commemorating the centennial of the Burlington Country Club.

By Representative Rachelson of Burlington Whereas, in 1924, the Burlington Country Club (the Club) acquired 150 acres of land from Henry Holt, famed New York publisher, which surrounded Holt’s estate, Fairholt,
and Whereas, the property is located on a hill straddling the Burlington-South Burlington municipal boundary, affording a spectacular 360-degree view, and Whereas, the Club retained the services of Donald J. Ross, the leading golf architect of
his era, to design an 18-hole golf course, which, in 2024, is the oldest golf course in
Chittenden County, and Whereas, this outstanding golf facility provides great recreational opportunities to its members and guests, and the course is acknowledged as one of the premier golfing venues in the State of Vermont, and Whereas, the participants in the Vermont Women’s Amateur Championship have teed off at the Burlington Country Club on 14 occasions, and their male counterparts have similarly competed on 15 occasions, and the men will again for the 2024 event, and Whereas, the Club hosts multiple charity golf tournaments each year benefitting nonprofit organizations, and Whereas, since 1969, the Club has provided aquatic opportunities for its members and guests, and it sponsors a swim team that competes in the Champlain Valley Swim League,
and Whereas, the grounds of the Club are open to the public for wintertime recreational use,
and Whereas, the broader recreational community received a wonderful gift when the Club conveyed land along its eastern boundary for the South Burlington Recreation Path, and Whereas, as the Club is celebrating a century of outdoor recreational activity and embarking on a second, it is eagerly anticipating continuing as a premier golf and swimming facility in Chittenden County, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly commemorates the centennial of the Burlington Country Club, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
the Burlington Country Club.
