No. R-301. House concurrent resolution in memory of former Winhall Town Treasurer Kathryn Louise Coleman.

Offered by: Representative Pajala of Londonderry Whereas, for over four decades, the finances of the Town of Winhall were under the conscientious and scrutinizing supervision of Kate Coleman, and Whereas, she attended grammar school in what is now the town hall where she worked much of her career, and Whereas, after graduating from the Leland and Gray Seminary (now the Leland & Gray Middle and High School) in Townshend and the Northampton Commercial College in
Northampton, Massachusetts, the Holstein Association USA Inc. became her employer,
and Whereas, starting in 1983, Kate Coleman entered the public sector as an official in the Town of Winhall when she assumed the important position of Town Treasurer, an office she held with great pride and distinction; and even after concluding her 33-year tenure in
this office, Kate Coleman remained involved in the town’s financial management as the Winhall Assistant Treasurer until 2020, and Whereas, in her complementary role as Winhall Delinquent Tax Collector (1985–2023),
Kate Coleman helped ensure that the municipal coffers received all the money owed to the town, and Whereas, as if not already sufficiently busy at the Winhall Town Hall, Kate Coleman also served as the Winhall Assistant Clerk (1983–2015), and Whereas, when not serving the citizens of Winhall, Kate Coleman held numerous offices with the Order of the Eastern Star, including that of Grand Treasurer of the Eastern Star State of Vermont (2009–2023), and Whereas, Kate Coleman, whose many canine companions over the years brightened her life, died on November 20, 2023 at 79 years of age, leaving a brother and many friends in
her hometown, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly extends its sincere condolences to the family of Kathryn Louise Coleman, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
the family of Kate Coleman and to the Winhall Town Clerk.
