No. R-303. House concurrent resolution congratulating the youngsters who represented Vermont and earned an individual championship at the 2024 Elks National Hoop Shoot’s New England regional tournament.

Offered by: Representatives Houghton of Essex Junction, Burke of Brattleboro, Dodge of Essex, Dolan of Essex Junction, Garofano of Essex, Kornheiser of Brattleboro, Labor of Morgan, and Toleno of Brattleboro Whereas, the Elks National Hoop Shoot began in 1946 when the National Elks President witnessed an informal youth basketball game in which the smaller youngsters were seriously disadvantaged, and Whereas, he reacted by establishing the Elks Hoop Shoot, with competition limited to
competitors of the same age and gender; and, in 1972, the first national final was conducted,
and Whereas, the Elks National Hoop Shoot is conducted in successively more competitive rounds on the local, district, state, regional, and, ultimately, national levels, and Whereas, in 2024, at the regional event in Portland, Maine, three youngsters who represented Vermont scored the most baskets in their respective age-gender categories, and they earned invitations to compete at the national finals in Chicago, and Whereas, Cade Barcomb, 11 years of age, of Essex Junction, scored 21 of 25 throws;
Olivia Rodgers, 13 years of age, of Spofford, New Hampshire, who competed in
Brattleboro, succeeded on 22 of 25 shots; and Lincoln Sykes, eight years of age, of Island Pond, tallied an impressive 24 of 25 attempts, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the youngsters who represented Vermont and earned an individual championship at the 2024 Elks National Hoop Shoot’s New England regional tournament, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
each of the three Chicago-bound youngsters honored in this resolution.
