Martha Canfield Memorial Free Library Director Phyllis Skidmore.

Offered by: Representatives James of Manchester and Bongartz of Manchester Whereas, public libraries serve as a center of learning, literary enjoyment, diverse life-
enhancing guidance and information, and as a hub for community engagement, and Whereas, in 1980, the Martha Canfield Memorial Free Library wisely hired Phyllis Skidmore as its librarian, and Whereas, Phyllis Skidmore has now served the citizens of Arlington, Sandgate, and Sunderland for 44 years, and Whereas, she has guided generations of children as they became lifelong readers, and Whereas, Phyllis Skidmore has welcomed generations of adult readers as members and volunteers in support of the library and inspired thousands of patrons to expand their knowledge and experience through the programs and services the library offers, and Whereas, she effectively guided the library into the digital age, and Whereas, Phyllis Skidmore was instrumental in the planning, site selection, and design of the new library that opened in 1996, and Whereas, she creatively and successfully guided the library through the challenges it
faced during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to provide continuous service to the patrons,
and Whereas, on May 19, 2024, as Phyllis Skidmore concludes her exemplary Martha Canfield Memorial Free Library career, the communities she serves are honoring her at a fond farewell celebration, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly honors the dedication and leadership of Martha Canfield Memorial Free Library Director Phyllis Skidmore, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
Phyllis Skidmore and to the Martha Canfield Memorial Free Library.
