No. R-296. House concurrent resolution in memory of Ascutney Fire Chief Darrin Spaulding.

Offered by: Representatives Arrison of Weathersfield and Morris of Springfield Offered by: Senators Clarkson, McCormack, and White Whereas, the service of our local firefighters is a special calling that protects all Vermonters from the personal and structural dangers arising from raging flames, and Whereas, in the Town of Weathersfield, the residents were fortunate that a highly experienced and skilled firefighter, Darrin Spaulding, served as the fire chief, and Whereas, Darrin Spaulding was born on February 9, 1965, and, 44 years ago, as a teenager, he joined his father, former Ascutney Fire Chief Rodney Spaulding, as the Ascutney Fire Department’s (the Department) youngest member, and Whereas, his affinity for this important civic duty was clear to all, and he soon began to
assume increased responsibilities within the Department, and Whereas, his fellow fighters came to recognize Darrin Spaulding’s leadership potential and ability to address the demanding, and at times unanticipated, situations that can arise in a fire department, and Whereas, this, combined with his “courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication in
the face of danger,” earned the admiration of his colleagues and resulted in the appointment, in 1995, of Darrin Spaulding as the Ascutney Fire Chief, continuing a proud family tradition, and Whereas, his official firefighting roles included Ascutney Chief Engineer and Fire Warden, and Whereas, to the great shock and sadness of his firefighting colleagues and the entire Weathersfield community, Fire Chief Darrin Spaulding died suddenly on April 9, 2024 at
59 years of age, and his parents and children survive him, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly extends it sincere condolences to the family of Ascutney Fire Chief Darrin Spaulding and to the Ascutney Fire Department, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
the family of Darrin Spaulding and the Ascutney Fire Department.
