No. R-280. House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2024 Hartford High School Hurricanes Division II championship girls’ ice hockey team.

Offered by: Representatives Christie of Hartford and Cole of Hartford Offered by: Senators Clarkson, Collamore, McCormack, and White Whereas, in the three-decade history of Hartford High School girls’ ice hockey, the team had previously reached the season’s decisive game but had not brought home the division crown, and Whereas, the 2023–2024 season marked a historic turning point for the Hurricanes as
their long quest for girls’ ice hockey glory finally achieved success—and with a roster bereft of experienced seniors, and Whereas, the second-seeded Hurricanes (16–6–1) faced off against the fourth-ranked Missisquoi Valley Union High School Thunderbirds at the University of Vermont’s Gutterson Fieldhouse, and, despite scoring the contest’s opening goal, the Hurricanes twice trailed the Thunderbirds (at first, 2–1, and later, 3–2) before surging ahead in the final period to triumph with a 5–3 victory—the highest score ever recorded in a girls’ ice hockey State championship contest, and Whereas, Hurricanes Vivian Tsouknakis, Paisley Danaher, Madison Barwood, Emma Bazin, Morgan Curtis, Olyve Frankenfield, Aubree Vail, Braelyn Park, Zoe Zanleoni,
Carsyn Weglarz, Grace Hayes, Nella Bowen, and Flynn Moreno were delighted, and Whereas, Head Coach Kylie Young; assistant coaches Trevyr Young, Karli Swensen,
and Justin Barwood; goalie coaches Erin Stevens and Jason Gramling; and Team Manager Lucy Bloom were proud of these persevering young athletes, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the 2024 Hartford High School Hurricanes Division II championship girls’ ice hockey team, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
Hartford High School.
