No. R-224. House concurrent resolution honoring Putney Fire Chief Thomas Goddard for his exemplary achievements as a municipal public safety official.
(H.C.R.170)
Offered by: Representative Mrowicki of Putney Offered by: Senators Harrison and Hashim Whereas, the Town of Putney had long relied exclusively on volunteer support for its firefighting services, and Whereas, in more recent years, the needs of the community required that the municipality appoint a full-time fire chief to oversee this important aspect of public safety,
and Whereas, after careful consideration, the Town of Putney appointed Thomas Goddard to this important role, and Whereas, not only was Thomas Goddard responsible for the management of the Putney Fire Department, but as the first full-time fire chief, he literally created its current organizational structure and operational procedures from scratch, and Whereas, Thomas Goddard did not limit his day to direct firefighting responsibilities;
rather, he also served as Putney’s health officer, code and enforcement officer, emergency management director, and E-911 coordinator, and Whereas, colleagues in neighboring towns on both sides of the Connecticut River respect Thomas Goddard’s technical expertise and managerial capabilities and have selected him to serve as the VT EMS District 13 president and as the Southwestern New Hampshire District Fire Mutual Aid Board vice president, and Whereas, after over two decades of doing his best to extinguish blazes large and small in Putney, serving as the town’s go-to person on public health and safety issues, and providing his colleagues with valued regional leadership, Thomas Goddard is concluding his public service, and his friendship and wisdom will be missed, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly honors Putney Fire Chief Thomas Goddard for his exemplary achievements as a municipal public safety official, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
Thomas Goddard and to the Putney Fire Department.
